I Press Towards the Mark !
The apostle Paul reminds us of His calling in God: “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
Paul knew there was a high calling in Christ Jesus. Yet, most of those who call themselves by His name are willing to settle for a simple salvation experience, being saved and baptized in water. There are those who just want to be inthe front line and do not know how to holsd a gun. We recall how Uriah got his death in the war when David ordered him in the front of the hottest battle. A man with no idea what he was about in the front. David did that to cover up his adultery. Today the same thing ministers in adultery and hugging the frontline. Truly as it was then, it is now. Then there are those who take the next step of being baptized by and in the Holy Spirit but go no further, depending upon the emotion generated by those of like beliefs, satisfied with the first fruit anointing. Paul had gone this same route to come into a spiritual knowing in God. But Paul could not be satisfied with the assurance his sins were forgiven and with the earnest of his inheritance. He knew he needed to press on to the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Christ Jesus is the risen, glorified Christ. The church system has become satisfied with their salvation experience in Jesus. They never press forward to know who He is today. As Isaiah stated:
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
That same child born in a manger is now The Mighty God and the Everlasting Father. Until we press toward the risen, glorified Christ Jesus in our life, we will never receive the prize God promised at the end of our race. Paul understood God’s promise:
“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” II Timothy 4:8
This same crown of righteousness is promised to all who will press toward God’s high calling in their lives. It is time to discard all our old, religious ideas and ideals and press toward the mark Jesus set forth for us to aim at. Anything less will cause us to lose our crown of righteousness.
